Extracurricular activity group Kanazawa University Volunteer Support Station and their advisor, lecturer Kaisei Harada from Faculty of Economics and Management, Institute of Human and Social Sciences, participated in festivals held in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture in April.
On April 4, Volunteer Support Station and Kaisei Harada participated in the Hikiyama Festival held by Sumiyoshi Shrine in Fugeshi-machi, Wajima City, as an assistant operator and mikoshi bearer. The floats used for the Hikiyama Festival were damaged in the Noto Peninsula Earthquake of 2024, so this year, instead, we paraded the mikoshi through the streets of Fugeshi-machi. In addition, the festival was enlivened by the cooperation of local people, including serving sacred sake to the local shrine parishioners who bowed to the mikoshi.
On April 6, Volunteer Support Station and Kaisei Harada participated in a spring festival held by Juzo Shrine in Kawai-machi, Wajima City, as an assistant operator and mikoshi bearer. After the local people performed "Debayashi" (traditional folk dance), "Wajima Koshu Daiko" drums, and sang "Wajima Madara," they carried the mikoshi with students and staff from other universities through the town, from Marine Town to Ishikawa Prefectural Wajima High School. The participants paraded around the streets to the accompaniment of the powerful taiko drumming, and the festival was a lively, united event.
